About the role:

This position can be based remotely with travel to Corvallis, Oregon.
Work closely with the CTO and strategic business leaders at Agility Robotics to (a) develop comprehensive global IP strategy; and (b) ensure that unique technology and innovation is identified, protected and leveraged by the organization.

Build value in the company through IP protection and documentation in the furtherance of the global IP strategy.

Protect Agility’s business through defensive as well as protective patent filings and other IP protection

About the work:
Develop a deep knowledge of the Company’s existing and planned research and development programs, business activities, and product candidates in the context of competitor activities, industry trends, best practices, laws, and regulations affecting IP.
Provide training and counsel internal clients, including management and members of the R&D, technical operations, and corporate development teams, on IP concepts, risks, and opportunities.
Maintain and communicate a clear picture of the competitor IP landscape to prevent technological surprise.
Lead preparation and prosecution team in the procurement of US and foreign patents, working closely with internal clients (engineering teams) and business leaders to develop and execute on world-wide IP strategy.
Manage the growth of the IP portfolio, including docketing of response, maintenance, filing and other deadlines, evaluation of and response preparation of Office Actions, communication with foreign counsel.
Review and assist in the drafting and/or negotiation of nondisclosure, research, license, and other agreements involving the use, transfer, or ownership of intellectual property.
Provide IP due diligence support for corporate development activities and manage patentability, freedom-to-operate, infringement, validity, and regulatory exclusivity analyses.
Build a team, as we scale, to ensure Agility’s revenue grows with our technology and our size.
About you:
Significant preparation and prosecution experience, including familiarity with both US and PCT IP rules, regulations, and practices.
Ability to approach IP creation and protection with a strategic mindset by anticipating future business, competitive and legal risks, and opportunities and offering creative solutions.
Experience in drafting and negotiating IP terms in business transactions required.
Experience with license agreements is strongly preferred.
Strong business acumen and the ability to creatively resolve business issues.
Ability to manage outside counsel and other external resources for quality work product, value, and efficiency.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Flexibility, willingness, and ability to take on diverse tasks.
Ability to facilitate and contribute to collaborative decision-making processes and work effectively on cross-functional teams.
