Our founders embodied this spirit in 1882 when they organized the non-profit River View Cemetery Association – mutually owned by those who chose this as their final resting place for loved ones.

As established in 1882, River View Cemetery has operated under the supervision of a dedicated, volunteer Board of Trustees of Portland’s oldest non-profit endowment care cemetery.

For many years the Board envisioned establishing a funeral home on the cemetery grounds for the convenience of Oregon families choosing River View.

In 2004, their vision became a reality, and a full-service funeral home was opened with a commitment to provide the same high level of quality service that River View Cemetery is so well known for.

This for-profit funeral home operates with a Board of Directors, but as a wholly-owned subsidiary of River View Cemetery, each year the profits of the funeral home are paid as a dividend to the cemetery to help support this historic landmark serving the Portland community.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will have a collaborative leadership style with experience working directly with senior leadership and a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

The candidate will work to inspire their team to work independently and as a part of a team.

Be successful in achieving annual sales revenue and production targets, develop a professional and effective staff, and provide exceptional customer service.

Overview & Responsibilities:

· Manage our Sales Counselors, including motivating Sales Teams to become highly productive in a professional environment

· Coach and mentor the Sales Counselors to manage leads and train the team on customer service and satisfaction, prospecting, product knowledge, sales presentations, closing skills, product/service pricing, terms, paperwork, and interpreting sales guidelines

· Help prepare yearly sales quotas and ensure that quotas are achieved

· Recruit and hire Sales Counselors

· Provide Sales Counselors with proper training regarding sales techniques, legal requirements, and company products, policies, and procedures

· Review and evaluate the Sales Team’s performance

· Handle personnel issues concerning the Sales Team

· Conduct and assist in the Weekly Sales Meeting

· Ensure all contracts and paperwork is completed, returned accurately and in a timely manner

· Work in the Field with the Sales Team

Requirements & Qualifications:

· Minimum of 5-7 years of work experience as a Sales Manager

· Current Oregon Life Insurance and Pre-Need Cemetery Sales licenses or the ability to obtain them

· Basic computer and technology skills required

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications

· Excellent understanding of the selling process

· Time management and organizational skills

· Proven Sales Team leadership in a quota-driven environment

· Outstanding verbal and written communication skills

· Ability to work in a team environment

· Creative and detail-oriented

· Service industry experience preferred

· Funeral and/or cemetery experience preferred

· Use of a vehicle for transportation

· Ability to lift 75 lbs

Compensation and Benefits

This position is a salaried full-time exempt position with a base wage of $50,000 per year and includes commission overrides and quarterly performance-based bonuses.
