The portfolio enables CSPs to run, manage, and deliver network functions
– including virtualized and containerized network functions
– on a software stack that is agile, performant, and secure.This position is for a Senior Member of Technical Staff to join the team building common foundation services for Telco Cloud products.
These products feature a modern, cloud-native, microservice architecture, with individual services implemented in Java, Go, Python, and JavaScript/TypeScript.
Open-source software systems are used extensively; key technologies include Docker, Kubernetes, Carvel tools, Helm, Kafka, Flink, HDFS and Postgres.
The foundation team is responsible design, implementation, and delivery of common deployment, administration, streaming, and data storage services.
This position is specifically focused on the stream processing and storage subsystems, including high performance data ingestion and storage, and stream processing such as analytics processing and data enrichment, filtering and transformation.In short, you will be working with the latest tools and technologies, with a high-performing distributed team.**Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?**+ Short-term (1-3 months)+ Establish development and test environments+ Understand and be able to build and deploy at least one product built on the SEBU telco foundation+ Be familiar with tools (JIRA, Confluence, Slack) and development processes, including those for design, coding and testing+ Identify key personnel in the team and know who to go to when you have questions+ Have committed code to resolve a few defects or small features, with guidance from senior team members+ Medium-term (3-6 months)+ Participate in a complete product release cycle+ Drive a small project to completion, from requirements definition and refinement, through estimation, coding, and testing, to delivery+ Actively participate in release and sprint planning activities+ Identify areas of potential specialization+ Long-term (6-12 months)+ Take ownership as lead for an entire service+ Drive more complex projects to completion, possibly including directing work of small groups of developers+ Have established relationships with and able to work partner teams and external stakeholders+ Be recognized as an expert in some technologies or aspects of the product+ Have opinions on and advise management on technical and procedural matters**The Work: What type of work will you be doing?
What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?****Key responsibilities include:**+ Developing and maintaining features in a carrier-grade, scalable software platform+ Analysing requirements and preparing designs and specifications to meet them+ Work with large volumes of data
– design scalable software solutions for data ingestion, parsing and analytics+ Develop cloud-based distributed software solutions+ Collaborate with data scientists to understand requirements and build an efficient stream processing system that enables advanced AI based analytics**Skills, qualifications, and experience required:**+ Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related discipline.
Advanced degree preferred+ 5+ years of experience in software architecture, design, and development+ 1+ years of experience as feature/component lead of complex features/components+ Interest in all things distributed in Cloud: Distributed Systems, Big Data+ Proficient in Java+ Proficient with shell scripting and at least one scripting language such as Python or Groovy+ Knowledge of one or more relational database management system, such as Postgres or Oracle+ Knowledge of one of more no-SQL databases, such as Cassandra, MongoDB, or ElasticSearch+ Experience with big data tools

What is the structure and culture of the team like?**The hiring manager for this role is a Director R&D, leading the Telco Cloud foundation development team from Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
The manager and his team joined VMware from Dell EMC in 2018.
This position will initially report to him.The team is primarily located in the United States (65%), with smaller contingents in India (15%), Canada (12%), and the United Kingdom (8%), and embraces a diversity of backgrounds, skills, and experiences.
