Lead Data Engineer

Job Description

The SquareTrade Data Engineering team believes data is a key to decision-making.

We want to use data insight to look for new opportunities and help improve our award-winning service to our customers.

As a Data Engineer, youll develop, create, and modify data engineering applications software or specialized data pipeline utility programs.

Analyze business users needs and develop data solutions.

Design software or customize the software for Merchant
Integration, Supply chain, and Finance use with the aim of optimizing operational efficiency.

Analyze and design databases within a data warehouse area, working individually or coordinating database development as part of a team.

Responsibilities:

* Confer with product managers, engineers, programmers, and others to design the system and to obtain information on project limitations and capabilities, performance requirements, and data pipeline (ETL/ELT) interfaces.
* Modify existing data pipeline (ETL/ELT) to correct errors, allow it to adapt to new data pipeline (ETL/ELT), or to improve its performance.
* Analyze Merchant Integration, Finance and Supply chain Stakeholders and product managers needs and data requirements to determine feasibility of design within time and cost constraints.
* Consult with Merchant Integration, Finance and Supply Chain Stakeholders about data system design and maintenance.
* Design, develop and modify data systems, using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcome and consequences of design.
* Develop and direct data system testing and validation procedures, programming, and documentation.
* Analyze information to determine, recommend, and plan data system reports and layouts, and modifications.

* Loves to work with different technology stacks: We believe in using the best tool to get the job done which may be developing out our Java app, writing Python (or your favorite scripting language), laying out Informatica ETL mappings, or prototyping a problem with Hadoop and Spark.

* Youve got a solid foundation: This role requires both a broad and deep understanding of data; you must have an advanced understanding of MPP databases, data modeling & schema design, large-scale data processing frameworks and experience building data pipelines from disparate sources.
