JOB PURPOSE: Healthcare Accountant / Accounting Specialist

This position is responsible for performing a variety of intermediate accounting and fiscal record keeping activities for the CCO and Independent Physician Association (IPA) including assisting in the processing of accounts payable and payroll, maintenance of financial records and other specials projects as assigned while staying in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Healthcare Accountant | Accounting Specialist Duties
Maintains timely and accurate required records, reports, and files to ensure adherence to GAAP within accounting department
Prepare and process accounts payable, proper coding of payments, and other related financial reporting
Prepares biweekly payroll processing including proper payroll deductions for taxes, benefits, and other deductions
Process, and post scheduled claims payments
Process vendor refunds and returned checks as necessary
Records entry of, verifies documentation for, and company credit card use of non-Flex Fund Expenditures
Process employee business and per diem reimbursements
Enters, maintains, and processes information in accounting and payroll systems
Coordinate with payroll processing company to ensure processing of federal and state payroll tax deposits
Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices
Participate in quality and organizational process improvement activities and teams when requested
Identifies and recommends updates to accounting software, systems, procedures for quality improvement
Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures as applicable to area(s) of responsibility
Handle confidential information and materials appropriately and maintains a secure work area
Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, and EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma or GED required
Associate’s degree, experience in lieu of education will be considered

Two to three years experience with full cycle payroll or other similar experience that documents strong attention to detail, mathematicial skills, and policy adherence

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Basic knowledge and experience of the accounting cycle
Basic knowledge and experience processing payroll
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, theories, concepts, and terminology
Knowledge of payroll processes and application of state and local labor laws and regulations
Working knowledge of accounting principles and data management with an emphasis in Excel
Knowledge and understanding of the positions’ responsibilities contribute to the department and company goals and mission
Knowledge of federal and state laws including OSHA, HIPAA, Waste Fraud and Abuse
Awareness and understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion
Awareness of the equity lens: ability to analyze the unfair benefits and/or burdens within a society or population by understanding the social, political, and environmental contexts of policies, programs, and practices
File and record maintenance skills of both manual and computerized systems
Ability to prepare and report communications in response to accounting inquiries
Ability to plan, organize and integrate priorities and deadlines
Ability to prioritize accounting projects with minimal supervision
High level attention to detail ensuring accuracy and completeness
Ability to understand and implement policies and regulations
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

Ability to report to work as scheduled
Support and contribute to effective safety, quality, and risk management efforts by adhering to established; policies and procedures, maintaining a safe environment, promoting accident prevention, and identifying and reporting potential liabilities

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position must have the ability to remain in a stationary position, occasionally move about inside the office to access office machinery, printer, etc., frequently communicate, and exchange accurate information.
Work Condition:
Employee generally works within the interior of an office environment.

Employee may travel locally and be responsible for own transportation.

Out of area travel may be required on occasion.

Hours of operations and specific staff scheduling may vary between worksite based on operational need.
The general environment is clean with a comfortable temperature and moderate noise level.

Exposed to: Cold/heat controls, close contact with employees and the general public.
Machines, equipment, tools, and supplies used: Constantly operates a computer or other office productivity machinery, such as fax, copier, calculator, multi-line telephone system, scanner.

Multiple Duties: Must be able to work under conditions of frequent interruption and be able to stay on task.

Schedule is generally Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm.
Position is full-time, 40 hours per week but may include additional hours to meet the needs of the position.
