Function/Duties of Position
The Department of Molecular and Medical Genetics has an immediate opening for a full-time genetic counselor specializing in cancer genetics with some support in general pediatric genetics.
The selected candidate will join our clinical genetics team and be actively involved in the continued expansion of genetic counseling services, including cancer genetics high risk surveillance clinic, telehealth, and research.
The counselor will participate in overall coordination of patient care including intake, assessment, counseling, test coordination, and follow-up.
Our genetic counselors are involved in several pediatric and adult multidisciplinary clinics, working in partnership with oncologists, surgeons, gastroenterologists, endocrinologists, pathologists, and medical geneticists in our NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center.
On the pediatric side, the counselor would work with a team of genetic counselors and geneticists providing care in GC and multidisciplinary clinics, participating in patient visits and coordination of care as above.
In addition to direct patient care, our genetic counselors serve a primary role in education to medical trainees, genetic counseling students and other health care providers.
Participation in research and publication is also encouraged.
Required Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Human Genetics/Genetic Counseling from an ABGC accredited training program Board Certified or an Active Candidate through the ABMG or ABGC
