Purpose The Senior Plant Technician Operator (SPTO) or ”Control Room Operator” performs primarily as the senior operator of all power generation equipment at Klamath Cogeneration Plant and Klamath Generation Peakers.
The SPTO ensures that all equipment is properly operated in a safe manner and in compliance with all permits, rules, and regulations.
The SPTO is expected to cross train in basic mechanical and electrical maintenance, and contribute to a variety of maintenance activities commensurate with their skills and qualifications.
The SPTO role is at times an individual contributor, a team member, and often times a group leader.
As with all PKE employees, the SPTO should continuously strive to better themselves as well as the team.
Responsibilities Complete the PTO qualification standard and perform all duties of a PTO.
Complete the SPTO qualification standard and demonstrate understanding of all systems and processes.
To the extent qualified, perform mechanical and electrical maintenance.
Be proficient as a watchstander of all watch stations with no supervision.
Possess a high level of system and integrated process knowledge of all power generation equipment.
Act as team leader while on watch, and be responsible for the safe and proper operation of the plant.
Some duties include: coordination of all maintenance activity, efficient operation of the plant, and managing other on-watch technicians.
Actively participate in the training and qualification of team members.
Continually evaluate and prioritize plant conditions (steady-state, transient, & upset) and act to control, contain, and restore plant operations in a safe, appropriate, and environmentally compliant manner.
Perform initial troubleshooting, calibration and repairs to plant equipment as needed.
Oversee the safe and proper operation of the water treatment facility.
Assess plant conditions and call in management or other resources, within guidelines established by management, for assistance or support as needed.
Coordinate, approve and provide safety clearance tag-outs as required.
Monitor and interpret plant emissions and discharges and act to maintain compliance with all applicable laws, permits, provisions and orders.
Order materials and services (bulk, specialty, and routine) in support of normal and emergency (upset) conditions of the plant.

(combustion turbine experience is preferred) Ability to read, comprehend, and abide by all Environmental, Health, & Safety documents, programs, and procedures.
Ability to read, comprehend, and utilize drawings and technical manuals.
Proven successes in completing a respiratory evaluation and fit test.
First aid and CPR Certified Strong communications skills Strong team work skills and ability to participate in committee meetings.
Take a test to measure your operational and mechanical aptitude.
Take a pre-employment drug test.
Have and maintain a current Oregon drivers license.
